Mentoring - in your organisation
Introduction
The use of mentoring in the training of teachers within the Learning and Skills sector is increasingly recognised as an important area for development and improvement.
Equipping Our Teachers [REF]Standards Unit (2004) Equipping Our Teachers, Reforming Initial Teacher Training for the Learning and Skills Sector. London: DfES, § 3.6 p. 8 & § 4.8 p. 15 included proposals for subject specific mentoring in the workplace as part of the widespread reform of initial teacher training (ITT) for the Learning and Skills sector.
The organisations participating in this research project have had the opportunity to look critically at a number of innovative approaches to mentoring. For organisations preparing to implement the new standards for ITT and for those seeking Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETT) status, having a mentoring programme in place will be critical to ensure that ‘All trainee teachers have access to appropriate support … in order to improve their specialist teaching skills.’ [REF] http://www.lluk.og/svuk/cetts/guidance_on_completing_

Ideas from these projects and wider research are reviewed below, in an attempt to provide a resource for those working on developing mentoring within their own organisation.
