About Us

The UCLAN Partnership consists of sixteen colleges that host the CertEd/PGCE (PCET - Post-Compulsory Education and Training) programmes for their regional locality. Each has its own way of dealing with recruitment, selection and induction, although the programme itself has standardised delivery and assessment expectations as part of the franchise agreement with individual colleges. UCLAN expectations for higher education (HE) delivery, assessment, moderation, accreditation and external examination are aligned with local college expectations by the individual programme leaders, who form the Scheme Management Team of the programme. Programme leaders work with individual tutors in their colleges to deliver and assess the elements of the CertEd/PGCE programme, which includes formalised observation of teaching practice in outside placements and in their own colleges.

"We wanted to develop an individual learning plan (ILP) which recognises that personal development is a gestalt of ways of learning and is part of a life-long process. Throughout our lives learning occurs in a multitude of ways; all of them contribute to our personal development: Planning, Action and Recognising Achievement (PARA) is part of that process."

Partners in the project

β€˜The partnership currently has 16 colleges that represent the North West of England: from Cumbria and Carlisle in the north, Liverpool in the south, Barrow in Furness in the west and Stockport College in the east of the partnership, together we cover approximately 3,000 square miles of teacher training within the FE sector.’ (Barton, A [2005] – Mentor Handbook Introduction)
