About Us

Truro College is a relatively new tertiary college, opened in 1993, which aims to provide excellence in meeting the education and training needs of the city of Truro and the surrounding area. The college has grown rapidly in the first few years of its life, and there are now more than 9,000 part-time students, mainly on Schedule 2 courses. There is also an established higher education (HE) provision with part-time and full-time courses at degree and diploma level, with over 500 full-time students and over 150 part-time students.

"We wanted to offer a qualitative evaluation of a range of different teaching practice and teaching observation models in initial teacher training (ITT). We wanted to use trainer and trainee perceptions as a ‘control’ measure of effectiveness in these areas.

The teaching observation models used would include those conducted by generic education trainers, subject-specialist trainers, peers and a professional expert. We also wanted to construct documentation for processes, as well as for staff and trainee support."
