About Us

Tower Hamlets College is a medium-sized general further education (FE) college, with distinctive expertise in its sixth form with adults and employers. It operates in the heart of the East End of London, with centres in Poplar, Stepney and Bethnal Green. Total college income for 2005/06 is estimated at £27 million; current student numbers are over 10,000, more than 2,500 of whom are full time students.

We provide teacher training at level 3 (City and Guilds 7302 Certificate in Delivering Learning) and at level 4 (City and Guilds 7407 Stages 1 and 2).

The aim of our project was to develop an electronic continuing professional development (CPD) recording system that would allow staff to book sessions online and produce electronic CPD records. In particular, we wanted to pilot different support strategies for trainee teachers and training in the use of electronic individual learning plans (ILPs) for teacher trainers.
