Nottingham Trent University
About Us
Nottingham Trent University emerged as a university in 1992, but its roots go back to the 1840s, when the School of Art and Design was established. With over 25,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in the UK, offering a wide range of courses across three campuses: City, Clifton and Brackenhurst. There are ten academic schools in the university, each with its own area of specialisation. The School of Education is based at Clifton and offers, amongst other subject areas, primary, secondary and post-compulsory initial teacher education and training (ITT).
The university was involved in two pilot projects: individual learning plans (ILPs) and observation.
ILPs
"What the members of the Signposts to Success consortium shared was the vision of an ILP as a process rather than merely a document. Our challenge was to find the best way of presenting and implementing that vision. We set out to investigate and trial different ways of identifying and tracking for each initial trainee:
-
a starting point
-
developmental action points
-
continuing action plan
-
continuing professional development (CPD) needs.
Each member of the Signposts to Success consortium was at a different stage of developing initial assessment procedures and an ILP for their trainee teachers, and each had different ideas about the end products."
