About Us

 

Bury College is a medium-sized general further education college in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, to the north of Manchester, with a national reputation for high quality delivery of initial teacher training.  We have a suite of FENTO endorsed programmes to develop skills in teaching and supporting learning, from level 2 to level 4.  Our courses lead to qualifications awarded by City and Guilds (C&G) or validated by the University of Bolton. Our modes of delivery include pre-service, in-service, part-time and full-time and we are a first choice provider for, amongst others, trainees from the Greater Manchester Police and the local NHS Trust.  

 

"Bury College’s original project proposal ‘Using Individual Learning Plans to support the progress of trainee teachers in the Learning and Skills sector’ was designed to promote and support much-needed development work in the area of individual planning within initial teacher training. 

 

Our goal was to develop and implement a framework and procedures which would enable teacher trainee applicants to identify their career aims, plan the most appropriate course of action and track their progress towards their goals. 

 

It provided us with an opportunity to try out an approach and to develop a framework and documentation, which would facilitate the process."
