About Us

The University of Brighton is a community of 19,000 students and 2,100 staff based on four campuses in Brighton and in Eastbourne. The School of Education is based at Falmer and offers a range of professional development and initial teacher training (ITT) programmes. Teacher training for the post compulsory sector is delivered at Falmer and through franchised provision with four partner colleges. The part time in-service Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) programmes provide 150 places across the county and are delivered in all of the colleges as well as at the university. The university also offers 20 places on a full time pre-service PGCE. Both routes were included in the study.

"The aim of our project was to explore understanding of the value of an ILP as part of a trainee teacher’s overall development and to investigate the use of an ILP to facilitate links between theory and practice, taught and practical aspects of the course."
