Blackpool and the Fylde College
About Us
Blackpool and the Fylde College is a large, general further education college in the North West of England and an Associate College of Lancaster University. It has approximately 30,000 learners on a wide variety of academic and vocational programmes: 4,000 are full-time learners and the remainder are part-time learners; more than 1,500 learners are on university-led programmes.
We offer a wide range of teaching qualifications in our Teacher Education and Training Department, including the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and the Professional Certificate in Education (PCET), both of which are validated by Lancaster University and endorsed by FENTO. There are currently 40 full-time, pre-service teacher trainees and 100 part-time, in-service (Year 1 and Year 2) teacher trainees on these programmes. The majority of in-service trainees are staff of the college; the others come from a range of organisations, including the National Health Service, sixth-form colleges, Blackpool Local Education Authority, the armed forces and the voluntary sector. The department also offers the OCR Assessor and Verifier Awards and the City and Guilds of London Institute 7302, Introduction to Delivering Learning.
"The aim of our project was to trial an on-line individual learning plan (ILP) with trainee teachers to replace the paper-based ILP we had used to date."
